Welcome Visitors from Green Country Hamfest

Hello to all coming to us after the Green Country hamfest!

It was a pleasure to meet and discuss D-Star with you all.

The informative presentation on D-Star that we mentioned is linked to from below. A new version with a lot of updated information will be coming along soon. In the meantime, the old version is linked to directly below this item.

Also, Adam will be coming back down to the Tulsa area to present to the Tulsa Repeater Organization on March 25. More details can be obtained by contacting them directly regarding the location, time, etc.

The March 25 presentation has been cancelled, TRO forgot someone was already booked.

If you have further questions about D-Star, you can email us at web@w0omd.org.

D-Star Education Resources Available

Over the past month I've been working on a collection of education resources in order to spread accurate information about D-Star in a complete and concise fashion. I've got links to them all on my website, www.adamfast.com/hamradio/.

Some items include an abridged version of my presentation (which is currently being remodeled and an updated version will launch soon), a "callsign calculator" to aid in determining what exactly your RPT1/R1CALL, RPT2/R2CALL, URCALL fields need to be for a desired operation, and a quick lesson on how to set the callsign fields on the 2820.

I hope they're useful for you - reports are appreciated for things that could use further clarification, etc.

D-Plus BETA TESTING

The W0OMD repeaters are involved in a beta test for a new linking project for the D-Star gateway system. The new software is called D-Plus 0.104 and it allows gateway repeaters to be linked full time. We are testing with W6DHS repeater system near Sacramento, CA. The D-Plus software allows D-Star users to hear the linked repeater QSO's just as a RF link does. This is very helpful, because currently when you use the gateway callsign routing, you might be jumping into a QSO already in progress.

A couple to things to remember when using the linked system. Please wait at least 2 seconds after each transmission before transmitting. There is about a 2 second hang time that we do not hear and if you transmit before the repeater drops on the Sacramento side, the digital packets do not go through the system. Also, you will need to program your radios repeater 2 callsign "W0OMD**G" (replace asterisks with spaces) so that your digital packets go through the gateway. You will use the CQCQCQ in the "YOUR" callsign to use the link. That is all that it takes to use it, just transmit your callsign and see who is out there, the system does the rest.

As D-Star continues to evolve, we are seeing good changes to the radios and the system. Have fun and enjoy the hobby!
